Goldcrest Archer , Hazel Chaisty is going to Rio.

Tuesday 16th August 2016

Goldcrest Archer, Hazel Chaisty is going to Rio!

Hazel is a memberof GOLDCREST Archers, and is currently a member of Archery GB, paralympic squad.

She is going to Rio, along with the other Parolympic athletes, to take part in the PIP program.

The British Paralympic Association (BPA)  launched its 2016 Paralympic Inspiration Programme (PiP) for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, with 28 athletes and coaches across thirteen Paralympic sports.

The Programme, which was first launched in London 2012, provides athletes and coaching staff with an experience of several days at a Paralympic Games. It aims to provide developing athletes knowledge that will prepare them for a future Games experience as a selected athlete, as well as inspire and excite potential future Paralympians in their ambitions.

The group will travel to Brazil  where the Programme aims to provide an understanding of the scale and scope of the Games;

Give an experience of a multi-sport environment; and give exposure to some of the unique aspects of a Games, including the Village, the media spotlight and mixed zone, and transport systems.

Additionally, there will be a rigorous curriculum that the participants will undertake, with lessons about nutrition, media, anti-doping, competition planning and goal setting, as well as being expected to keep up with their current training programmes.

Athletes were nominated by their National Governing Body based on a number of criteria, including but not limited to being on a development pathway, with an anticipated performance trajectory for the 2018 or 2020 Paralympic Games.

The Programme will also include a cohort of military athletes which have been supported by Help for Heroes as part of their partnership with the British Paralympic Association which is based on a shared belief in the power of rehabilitation through sports and a commitment to introduce military personnel and veterans to opportunities in Paralympic sport.

Kate Eddy, Athlete Services Manager at BPA, said: “It is really exciting to be able to launch the Paralympic Inspiration Programme once again. We know that the programme has been really successful in the past and so I look forward to following this Rio cohort on their journeys towards Tokyo. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the organisations who have supported the programme, as without them it would not be possible to run the programmes and to provide these athletes with an experience that will have a tangible impact on their preparations and development over the next Games cycle.”

In 2016, a total of 21 athletes will attend the Rio 2016 Paralympic Inspiration Programme. Of these, 14 will comprise the non-military cohort and will be funded by the Cadbury Foundation, Boshier-Hinton Foundation and Help for Heroes will support seven military athletes.

Athletes nominated by their National Governing Body onto the Paralympic Inspiration Programme:-

Hazel Chaisty - Archery

Birthplace: Stockport, Cheshire

Home town: Glossop, Derbyshire

Phoebe Pine - Archery

Steve Gill - Archery

Nikki Paterson - Canoe

Jonny Young - Canoe

Hazel said  " I'm so excited and very privileged that I've been selected to go to Rio during the Paralympic Games as part of the Paralympic Inspiration Program.
This program is run for people who are expected to compete at the next games and is to fill them with knowledge about how everything works, how overwhelming the atmosphere can be and of course, how exciting it is. This inspires the future Paralympions ( us!).
I just can't wait to soak it all up, get myself in the right mindset and have a better understanding of what I'm working towards.
Thank you so much to those that have and continue to support me: Archery GB, The National Lottery, Foresters Friendly Society, The Worshipful Company of Fletchers, Bravissimo, XsWings, Opticron, Össur, and of course my incredible family and friends."
I'M TARGETING TOKYO!!!!!!

Needless to say that we at Goldcrest Archers are incredibly proud of Hazel and wish her every sucsess.

Lancashire Archery Association & Nethermoss Clouts Cancelled

Monday 8th February 2016

13 & 14 August. Due to the lack of a suitable venue to hold the LAA Clout Championships and the Nethermoss Double One Way Clout, the event has been cancelled.

If any other LAA affiliated club wishes to hold the LAA Clout Champs in future years, please contact the LAA Secretary.

A spoaksman for Nethermoss said

" Unfortunately the logistics of trying to host it at a location than our own was proving too difficult. We did research quite a few different venues with no joy. As you may be aware our current venue is going through extensive work during the coming 12 months. Hopefully another club in the area will be able to take over hosting in the future so that this shoot does not leave the yearly calendar"

China Visits Goldcrest Archers

Friday 29th January 2016

Saturday 23rd January saw 30 chinese students visit Goldcrest Archers for the day to experience archery, the day started at 9.30am with first of three groups, enjoying what was their very first step into the world of archery, not one student had ever pulled a bow or shot an arrow before, they were in for a treat.
The first group to teach was quite a challenge as we needed an interpreter to explain what we wanted the students to do, once we got over the language barrier it was full steam ahead.
Four coaches and two Goldcrest members helped out all day, the student organiser whose name was Roger Luo came to see us after he had made arrangements with Bruntwood Archers who were also going to teach a group for Rodger, Steve Ash asked if Goldcrest would help out as they needed to experience archery while they enjoyed their holiday in the UK over from China, we were glad to help as always.
Each group started on a fiberglass one piece bow then moved up to recurve shooting barebow style, popping balloons and having fun, towards the end of the session we held a competition to find the best three archers of each group, all the visitors were presented with a certificate and a club badge and the top three were awarded a trophy.

Mick White coming 3rd in the Recurve,

Tri Clout 2015

Thursday 3rd September 2015

WOW!!!

BEST  TRI CLOUT EVER.

The recent Tri- Clout held at Wirral Rugby Union Club, hosted by Neston Company of Archers has to be the best Tri Clout to date.

Really good weather, fantastic scores ( more of that later ) and an hilarious time had by those camping over.

Rarely do you go to a clout with so many claims for tassels, and six clout ends, and National record claims.

GOLDCREST did exceptional , claiming  a variety of coloured tassels from White to Purple.

Throw in 3 - yes, I did say Three! 6 clout end claims, Two Purple tassels, County records.

It was brilliant to see many archers at their first clout, claiming tassels. We hope they will continue to come along to the various clouts up and down the country.

As for the Ares Archery - or camping as it's known, There couldn't be anyone who didn't have a very funny time.

We thank you all, who came along and shot.

Massive vote of thanks to Neston, for all the field party & catering- greatly appreciated.

But the biggest thanks goes to Pete & Tracy for all their organising of the shoot, the administration of all the results in a very quick and timely fashion.

Hope to see you all again next year.

Nethermoss Fita & Lancashire GNAS clout weekend 2015

Monday 17th August 2015

What a fantastic weekend Goldcrest had at the recent Nethermoss Fita and the Lancashire GNAS clout weekend.

Beautiful sunny weather ( for once )

At the Nethermoss Fita clout  Mick White came 2nd, narrowly missing out on top spot  by one point, But he did win the Best clout.

Whilst Martin Coward, had a blinder. Smashing his PB by over 40 points, Again narrowly missing out on National records by 7 points, he did however, managed to break the current Cheshire county records for both the single and double clout, He claimed a 6 Clout end and gained his Purple Tassel. Not bad considering he shoots Barebow.

Other members also claimed a variety of different coloured tassels, and broke their own PB's

                                            Nethermoss Fiat Clout

At the Lancashire County Clout the day after, Again Goldcrest members shone. This time Mick White winning the Recurve, Andy Davis winning the Barebow, Bev White and Martin Coward coming second in the Barebow. Once again the other members did very well with  new tassels and PB's

                                              Lancashire GNAS clout

Tully a magnificent result from our members, and one of which we are truly proud of.

Eagle Bowmen Weekend of Clout 2015

Monday 15th June 2015

This year saw another fantastic turnout  from our cloub,

as ever camping fun and games proceded the actual shoot from the Friday until the conclusion on the Sunday.

Saturday saw a double one way imperial, and a double one way metric clout with a double imperial two way on the sunday.

For a change, the rain stayed away ( mostly ) and as ever, the wind was changable, making shooting tricky.

Goldcrest won several medal's and trophys with Mick White being the shining star with a clean sweep and best overall Recurve Champion.

The History of Archery

Tuesday 11th November 2014

It is as old as time,

From pre history to the 21st century,
the enormous power of the bow and
the precise accuracy of the arrow
have been part of the human story.

The universal weapon of the primeval hunt
and traditional warfare,
has evolved into one of the worlds most evocative
and demanding sports.

Archery.

It illustrates our history,

It reveals our human qualities,

it reflects our dreams and aspirations,

It's demands of mind and body
are metaphors for the challenges of life.

Its harmony and elegance are things of beauty.

Power and precision

Strength and subtlety
Passion and perseverance

Dedication and devotion

Intensity and Integrity.

Archery.

The ultimate sporting challenge

Click on the achievments page to take a look through the History of Archery.

We hope you enjoy.

Rounds by the dozen

Monday 10th November 2014

New to the sport? It can be very daunting when you hear other people going on, using all that technical babble, and like most of us you don't say anything incase they think you're daft. - Which we're pretty sure they wont, after all, everyone was once a beginner with not a clue.

On the Achievements page you can download a list of rounds, showing how many arrows are shot and at what distance.

Don't get confused with GNAS & FITA rounds, these have been rebranded into Archery GB & World Archery rounds, it's just that some archers still use the old  names, simple as that.

Happy shooting.

Goldcrest archer has her sights on Gold

Monday 21st July 2014

Hazel Chaisty is well on her way to Rio in 2016 as she is training as part of TEAM GB. She made her international debut in the Czech republic last month at the wold ranking shoot and later this month will be competing in Switzerland at the European Championships. Wish her luck, next time you see her at the club!
